A website responding to the little known, but highly compelling 1960s novelist
This is Ann Quin. I am Nonnie Williams Korteling. I have written a PhD on Quin’s life and writing. The purpose of this website is to share some of my research and to make contacts with other Quin enthusiasts.

Wonderful to do this. She was a very close friend when she was in New Mexico and we corresponded when she wasn’t here. I started a Facebook page for her: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/pages/Ann-Quin/372495999441?ref=ts
and I just today posted her reading list she gave me in the mid-60’s, very interesting: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=171059&id=663255734&l=e8603ec3c6
I would love to share one of her letters sometime but ultimately our correspondence should be published, I think. Best to you!
Ann was a personal friend who I saw almost daily at intervals in her life. I was with her in Brighton a few days before her death in the sea. I am writing a book about her with a friend called Nonnie who is doing a thesis on her. I would be grateful if anyone who knew her could contact me on
Hi there,
I do historical tours of Brighton on a number of themes, including literary and cultural subjects (see my website). I want to include Ann on one I am doing in Kemp Town, as she is always overlooked. Can you tell me where she lived in Lewes Crescent and any other addresses in Brighton relevant to her?
Many thanks, Rose Collis
I am delighted to find someone working on Ann Quin. I have just re-read Berg and have made a link from my website to this one. Good Luck. Patricia Duncker
I’ve sent you an email – I’ve just begun work on a PhD project myself at De Montfort, for which Ann Quin is going to be an important subject, and I’m very glad to find that somebody is considering her work in more detail!
Hullo. I’m currently doing research about the radical bookshop Better Books, and wonder if anyone has any anecdotes about Quin and Charing Cross rd 60s literary counterculture?
Dear Nonnie Williams,
I assume you know the portrait of Ann Quin presented by Henry Williamson in his last novel ‘Gale of the World’ (1969) as the character Laura. Ann and he met in February 1964 and had an intense relationship for a fairly short time (HW 40 years older!).
If you are still at UEA we could discuss this if you like as I live in Norwich and have the relevant material to hand. I am myself doing a fairly brief study of the character Laura of this novel.
I was named after Ann Quin (she knew my parents in New Mexico where I’m from) but am just now reading some of her writings and very much look forward to learning more about her. So very glad I found this and thank you!
